Winter Sunshine

Woke up today and guess what?  It was a whole new day.  The sun was out; it was crisp and clear.  The alarm clock was irrelevant and the kitchen had been cleaned up the night before.  My heart was light.  I’d been able to wake myself up from a dream that was about to go horribly wrong.  You know, the kind where you haven’t rehearsed the solo and you hear your cue to go on stage.

I’ve been luxuriating by visiting a few blogs, including Bella’s where I loved her take on outfit composition.  Never thought of it that way.  Gigi is whetting my appetite for gorgeous caramels as she experiments with shades of brown.  Feda has me enthralled with the exhibit of hippie chic at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.  I stopped by to see the Style Crone and was treated to an explosion of color in her post.  The delightful Curtise is wearing one of my favorite colors.  Jan is humorously describing life in a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde sort of weather pattern, and even though Jana hasn’t posted in awhile, I still check back for inspiration.  When I need to be reminded that it’s possible to look great in warm weather (my nemesis), I check in with Glenda.

I’ve been on Instagram a bit, where this thrifted alpaca sweater vest made it’s debut a few days ago.  After owning it for three plus years, it finally got an outing. Funny how that works.

Yesterday and today have also been filled with the joy of reconnecting with a dear one, another reason the sun is shining so brightly.

I hope that your day has been a good one.  Of course, tomorrow is a whole new opportunity.  Just make sure you wake up from that dream.

Outfit details: Alpaca sweater-thrifted, striped skirt-H&M then upcycled, leather armlets-thrifted and upcycled, beret-can’t remember, cashmere cowl-thrifted and upcycled, boots-thrifted, large turquoise ring-purchased in northern Maine, small turquoise ring-consignment shop.

How sweet of you to mention me. Thank you Jean! By the way, it was 83 degrees today. I got a late start on taking picture. Started sweating like crazy, and decided to try again on Monday morning.

Good luck! I’m not sorry I’m here. :-)

That’s a striking design on the sweater vest. The bold stripes balance it beautifully!

    • Jean on January 18, 2014 at 11:00 pm

Sometimes I think black and white stripes go with everything.

What wonderful colours in that sweater, and how well it works with the stripes. You sound on very good form, Jean – bright and positive and finding inspiration and friendship all over the place! Thank you for the mention, how sweet of you.
I STILL have those dreams, nearly 30 years after I last performed on a stage! xxxx

    • Jean on January 19, 2014 at 4:03 pm

It’s crazy isn’t it? I also dream about missing the school bus. Now THAT’S going back some. Were you in plays? Xxoo

I did an English Litature and Drama degree. It terrified the life out of me! I so wanted to release my inner actress but I was far, far too scared. Oh well, I gave it a go – and still have the performance anxiety dreams to prove it! xxx

This is such a wonderful outfit, and the alpaca vest is the centerpiece! It has all the colours I’m drawn to these days. I am lusting after your leather sleeves – I need a pair of those.

Yes, each day is a new day, with all sorts of possibilities. At least, that’s the thought that keeps me going 😉

    • Jean on January 20, 2014 at 8:34 pm

Keeps me going, too. The challenge is to remember it!!

I think I want to start a fan-club for your armlet collection! I love them so much! you do look wonderful Jean and I like the idea that each new day has fresh possibilities (especially after a good sleep with no wild dreams!) x x x

    • Jean on January 20, 2014 at 8:38 pm

You can be president of the fan club. :-) Of course you’ll have to rock them, so I’ll make you a set as a thank you present. Have a great week, and thanks so much for your comment.

    Hi Jean!
Isn’t great when the kitchen is spic and span in the morning – It always starts your day right! – I love your ensemble, stripes go with everything such a great neutral to create a splendid outfit like yours!

    Hugs

I have a few striped things and it amazes me how they compliment so many different kinds of patterns.

Speaking of sunshine, you are always such a bright ray! I also loved your recent post about your gorgeous cowl creations, and all of your musings on direction. Your colour, pattern, and texture mis here is just marvellous!!! SO much love to you, xoxoxoxoxo

    • Jean on January 20, 2014 at 8:40 pm

Love to you too!! Stay warm. Looking forward to your next post. XXOO

If I am going to wear stripes with a print (floral or animal), the stripes have to be black and white. Not pushing the envelope further than that! And again, I am coveting those armlets. They are the coolest!

    • Jean on January 20, 2014 at 8:42 pm

If you ever see a sweater or jacket with leather sleeves or faux leather sleeves in a thrift store, get it. Just cut off the sleeves and hem the top. With real leather you can glue it with rubber cement. Et voila, leather armlets!

A bright happy outfit, smile and attitude!! Wonderful way to start my day. My husband woke me up, accidentally, right before the bad part of a dream last night. At first I was annoyed, then I realized what he rescued me from and gave him a hug.

    • Jean on January 20, 2014 at 8:44 pm

Aww, very sweet. I’m glad he was able to spare you the drama. XXOO

Awwwh! You look so polished and gorgeous in your very-high-haute-artista way. Always, always an inspiration. Thanks for the shout out, Lovely Jean. I’m trying hard to find a way to keep up with all the women I love to read.
    You’re a peach, as always.

    • Jean on January 20, 2014 at 8:47 pm

Thanks so much. Trying to find the time is a constant struggle. Do the best you can, right? I think many of us are in the same boat, and there’s an understanding and generosity. I like that. You’re a peach too.

  13. The Style Crone on January 20, 2014 at 6:38 pm

How stunning you look in your colorful alpaca sweater playfully paired with your striped skirt. And of course the leather armlets ‘to live for.’ I can relate to wearing a piece after three years or more. Sometimes the time is just right, and not before.

Thank you for the mention and for the lovely links!

    • Jean on January 20, 2014 at 8:50 pm

You’re welcome. Stopping by is always a pleasure. It’s odd, but recently I’ve been pulling out a number of things that have languished in my closet for a very long time. Not sure why now is the time. Maybe the answer is in the stars, who knows. :-)

  14. Feda on January 23, 2014 at 11:12 pm

Jean you are looking so radiant! Love the outfit, especially your signature hats and armlets! You truly have such a beautiful spirit and way to you. Your style is just the cherry on top! Can’t wait to see you soon and get all your secrets to how you’re so cool inside and out!!

    • Jean on January 24, 2014 at 1:45 am

I’m excited about meeting you as well!! I have so many questions and can’t wait to share all the creative energy. I have a camera that my brother gave me; I don’t have a clue. Hope you can give me some insight. :-) I just visited many of your blog posts and Instagrams so I can respond/converse intelligently. P.S. I like to cook so maybe we can talk about that as well. :-)

    • Jean on January 24, 2014 at 1:57 am

I’ve been trying out a few outfits as I think about my trip “up North”. Ha ha. I’ll be there in a few days, with or without the “perfect” pieces. I never seem to pack efficiently and I always wish I’d brought something that’s left behind. Somehow I think it doesn’t matter, though. Can’t wait to go thrifting with you!!!

  15. Veshoevius on January 27, 2014 at 4:21 pm

I love your vest! So bright and colourful! It reminds me of a colourful jumper I used to have. Thanks too for your raggedy Ann/Andy memory – I replied to you on my blog but in case you didn’t see – my sister was also younger than me and I didn’t even think that you could have felt exactly the same way you did about getting the boy doll!

    • Jean on January 27, 2014 at 4:37 pm

Thank you for commenting here!! I haven’t had a chance to visit you again but I will when I get a moment. :-)

You look magnificent in this. The vest is truly a piece. It’s funny how clothes find their Right time…
Thanks for all these links – I know most but there are a few that I must investigate.

I would not change a thing about this outfit. I think all of us have that one thing in their closet that is waiting to be worn. For me, it’s a pair of red paisley culottes. I am so very glad I found your blog. I just did a post about this outfit http://thriftobsession.wordpress.com/2014/02/15/winter-style/ Thanks for sharing and I’ll be back to visit :)

    • Jean on February 15, 2014 at 4:53 pm

Thank you for the feature!!! It’s a pleasure to meet you as well. I LOVE the sound of red paisley culottes; can’t wait to see how you style them.
