There and Back

November 19, 2012

Some places are hard to leave.  Kiawah Island, off the coast of South Carolina, is one of them.  Fortunately for us, it was the location for Earl Klugh‘s Weekend of Jazz, a spectacular jazz festival with a variety of artists and events.  With an all-star line up (including Joey) and a luxurious setting, it’s about as good as it gets.

I could get used to this.

I’m happy to be home, though.  I think I like the going and the coming home.  I don’t have the obligatory celebrity-in the jazz world- photos, but you can probably find them on Facebook if you’re really curious.  I like being behind the scenes, watching the shows and watching the people enjoying the shows.

Am I ready to go back?  Absolutely.  But until then, I’m good.

Have a wonderful week.

I’m belatedly joining Patti at Visible Monday, and the Bon Bon Girls at Monday Mingle.  It’s never too late to party, right?

My outfit today consists of a top from a local boutique, a thrifted pencil skirt, thrifted boots, earrings from a recent crafts fair, and an upcycled cashmere cowl and “armlets” that I made last week.

    Sounds like a WONDERFUL time!
How about your stylish outfit here? Wowza!
I’m so in love with leopard/animal prints. You look fabuloso!!

You look amazing – so happy too. The break has done you good.

You look fabulous in leopard and you always have the best boots.
    Kiawah Island is beautiful. xxx

Looks like you had a wonderful trip. It must be lovely to get to see these new places and be part of a jazz event. I’m grateful that dancing has taken me to a couple of interesting places I wouldn’t have seen otherwise.
You look very elegant, love your leopard print top!

You are so statuesque. Sigh. Gorgeous. I like the eclectic sourcing of the items you have thrown together. You’re so good at that.
Getting away to a jazz fest where Joey is performing sounds like a perfect time out. The location looks very swanky and you look born to the life. Glad you’re having a great time!

Now that DOES look lovely! Very swanky place, perfectly suited for your elegant self, Jean! Can’t beat leopard print for glamour, and those boots are fabulous.
You always look so relaxed and beautiful in your photos, no awkward poses or looking down or bitch face! Please tell me you delete a load to pare it down to these perfect images – you know, the ones of you looking asleep, eyes shut, odd expression, 5 chins… or is that just me? I suspect all your pics are gorgeous! xxx

    • Jean on November 20, 2012 at 10:57 am

You wouldn’t believe how many I delete! That’s why I had to get a remote. Joey didn’t have the patience, poor man.

Groovin’ on an island with jazz. Looking fine, Jean. Like the armlet idea too. hmmm…

  9. The Style Crone on November 20, 2012 at 9:52 am

You fit right in with the gorgeous surroundings of the island.. The cowl frames your face to perfection and the shot of your legs/boots next to the water scene says it all. I love the asymmetry of the leopard print top. I can see you making an entrance down the dramatic stairway. So movie star!

I love to see places that I did not want to leave. It looks absolutely gorgeous. Your clothing is very exciting. I love Jazz – my first husband was a collector and we went to many concerts.

I’m obsessed with cashmere right now (peeps that don’t own any are…lol) so I love that you upcycled some to make your gorgeous top. What a great idea, especially since sometimes I see cashmere in thrift stores that isn’t in perfect condition.

Your getaway looks like heaven. I love business-related trips to beautiful settings and nice hotels. It doesn’t happen nearly enough!

You look gorgeous, happy and relaxed. I too love the leaving and the returning, both. Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday and Happy Thanksgiving!

What a gorgeous event. Your title made me think of the Lord of the Rings “There and Back Again” – it looks like the place you went was as magical as I imagine.

    • Jean on November 20, 2012 at 5:18 pm

I couldn’t remember where that title came from, and yes, I was sort of channeling it!

    You are looking rather gorgeous!!
I’ve been wanting to go to the Georgia AND South Carolina coast for years, mostly due to the influence of Frances Mayes, and Gone with the Wind!!!
It sounds and looks lovely, and what better excuse than a jazz festival?!

Although we have a British Isles-style pub, the Huz, Dan keeps one of about a bazillion cool Jazz stations available on internet radio playing most of the time. One of our favs is a station originating in Russia, and they play some of the best international, straight-up Jazz around.
Looking sleek, my dear, and welcome back. Enjoy the turkey to come … with all the fixings and family.

I am a huge jazz fan. Here in the Hartford area, there are a lot of venues to catch a jam. Great outfit, too. You’ve given me an idea on how to style an outfit for my visit to Mohegan Sun this weekend. Glad you had a fabulous time.

    Hi Jean!

Love the top and your laced boots – Marvelous setting indeed
You know about our Jazz Festival in Montreal?

You are blessed with an elegant beauty that you dress to perfection. I am going to have to try to make some armlets myself as I think they are so cool!

  19. Kaffesoester on November 21, 2012 at 4:33 pm

That place looks like a bit of a treat! Beautiful surroundings and lovely hotel. Your boots are gorgeous, and thrifted I see. I’ll have to visit the US soon, and go treasure hunting in all your thrift shops! I love the leopard top and the skirt, it’s very elegant!

Oh Jean, spectacular boots and wonderful top – I love the mix of cosy and fitted – and as others have said, you fit right in to the luxurious surroundings. Gorgeous! Glad it was a lovely time away. xoxo

P.S. I’m trying hard to learn not to take so many pictures! I’m not very efficient about posting, hence the gaps as life is happening. :)
