Because I’ve been inspired over the last few years by some exceptional personal style bloggers, I’ve decided to create a series of posts, The Ode Series, with outfits directly inspired by some of my style icons. On the surface, my icons provide me with fresh ideas on how to utilize my existing wardrobe; I love seeing the creativity and joy expressed through clothing. But deeper than this, they show me how creativity, art, and Spirit are all intertwined. In discovering them, my life is enriched in many powerful ways.
It’s entirely appropriate that my first ode is devoted to the Style Crone, aka Judith Boyd. I discovered her blog early on and was immediately affected, not only by her fashion flair and creativity, but by her personal story. Even as she navigated the unspeakable pain of her husband’s terminal illness and subsequent death, she would post with courage, beauty, and truth.
As she moves forward, she continues to light the way. I am deeply grateful she has been willing to share her journey with such incredible graciousness and humanity, and yes, style.
My hat’s off to you, my dear friend. I love you, and happy birthday!
(For those of you unfamiliar with the Style Crone, she is the deity of hats. As a tribute to her for this Ode post, I made a hat from upcycled materials, and paired it with a vintage coat I thrifted 30 years ago and just recently redesigned with thrifted materials. The skirt, top, and cowl scarf were likewise thrifted and upcycled. If you click on the photos once or even twice, you can see them in more detail.)
