Normally I wouldn’t post today.  One, I’m tired.  It’s New Year’s Day, you know?  Secondly, it’s mid-week and in general I’ve been trying to post once a week on Sundays.  It’s a humane schedule.  However, since today is a Hat Attack day, thanks to Judith aka Style Crone, I felt compelled to try to post something.

After grabbing my necklaces from Buffalo Exchange and my bracelets from Goodwill, I tried perching the fedora on the back of my head.  The last time I did this was in the ’80’s and it looks like it might be another 30 years before I try it again.

The shawl felt cozy and warm, just what I needed.  My assignment for the rest of the day is to curl up with a book. morning after NYE outfitIMG_1125

This is what I wore last night.  It’s the same outfit I wore last year in Denver when I was delighted to be able to usher in 2013 with Judith.  It’s been a good year.  Maybe I’ll wear it again next year too, just for luck.

Make sure you stop by Style Crone’s Hat Attack.  If you’re like me, it’s the perfect way to spend the first day of the New Year.  (I just glimpsed her hat for the post.  It is insanely beautiful and you must see it.)

Details:  Hat-DSW, shawl-Free People, jewelry-thrifted and gifted, with an occasional piece purchased after bartering with the artist.  New Year’s outfit-designed and sewn by me using mostly thrifted fabrics.

Here’s to a joyful, peaceful, and abundant year for everyone, everywhere.  XXOO

Oh I think you look adorable with your hat perched like that, Jean! Such lovely warm colours in your scarf and fedora, just right for a date with the sofa and a good book! Your NYE outfit is perfect, so why not bring it out every year? If it ain’t broke…
I agree with you, Judith’s Hat Attack hat is astonishly wonderful, one of her very best – fitting, to start the new year in such dramatic and beautiful style!
Wishing you and your lovely family all the love in the world for 2014, Jean. xxxxx

I’m taking a day or two, but I’ve resolved that this year is about action, not reaction. Should be interesting. :-) Hope you’ve had a lovely holiday season. XXOO

Hi Jean, your hat is cute and jewelry adorable. I just found out about Buffalo Exchange through a friend. I must go! Happy New Year!

    • Jean on January 1, 2014 at 8:12 pm

Same to you!! I love the Buffalo Exchange here, and have also visited ones in Portland OR and Denver CO with much success. XXOO

I’m headed to Buffalo Exchange tomorrow! Love the hat tilted on you like that. It really brings back memories.
    happy new year Jean!

Happy New Year, may it be so wonderful for you, dear Jean!!! I am delirious over your incredible jewelry and beautiful fabrics – gorgeous woven shawl and rich rust fedora – our Curtise got dibs on the word “adorable” but I’ll say it again – you are absolutely adorable with the fedora tipped back! Thanks for bringing back last NYE’s celebration pics with Judith. Off to scramble a Hat Attack post myself! So much love, xoxoxo

I thought of you when I saw the pic with the hat. Maybe I’ve seen you in a similar look? Excited about sharing inspiration with you in the coming months. XXOO

Beautiful jewelry! I actually have an amber bracelet that looks very similar to yours. And the shawl is amazing, I am in love with its print.

Happy New Year Jean. Burnt color – I love it and I love your shawl.
Enjoy it with a good book :)

Sweet hat, gorgeous jewellery. I wish we had a Buffalo Exchange here in Canada (or maybe we do and I don’t know about it?). The hat perched farther back on your head looks cute with your escaped curls framing your face.

I’ve only posted once over the holidays – it felt like time for a break, but will be back at it this week. Happy New Year Jean! Oh, and Judith’s hat is spectacular; I’ve got to come up with a hat of my own…

    • Jean on January 2, 2014 at 10:28 pm

I look forward to seeing your millinery creation. I’ve tried to make hats in the past with dubious success although there were a few I wore in the ’80’s. Oops, there I go again with those ’80’s. Guess I’m a little stylistically nostalgic.

I agree with everyone, your tipped back fedora is excellent! you look wonderful, your jewellry and shawl are gorgeous, you look so relaxed and not the least bit tired (your NYE outfit is fab! Curtise is right, bring it out every year!) I hope your 2014 is perfect x x x

    • Jean on January 2, 2014 at 10:32 pm

I tried to make sure I used the best natural light available to me for these pics. It helps for a decent headshot. I’m sending back to you the same wish for a perfect 2014!! XXOO

How exciting that you wore the same outfit that you wore last year! I remember it well, and I’m sure that you looked just as smashing this year as you did in Denver to ring in 2013. Thank you so much for the mention and the memories. Happy 2014 and wishing you a year that is filled with wonderful and exciting adventures and surprises.

On you this gorgeous fedora looks great anyway you choose to wear it. Love the color and the ensemble that enhances your headwear! Thank you so much for sharing with Hat Attack!

    • Jean on January 2, 2014 at 10:35 pm

I started out trying to make something else for New Year’s eve and then decided it was too rushed. I was happy to pull out the ensemble I wore last year and yes, I felt great. :-) Your hat for Hat Attack was over the top, in the best possible way. I was floored. Thank you for hosting such a great get-together. XXOO

Wishing you the same. I was so happy to see your post and glad to know you’ve been busy with good stuff. Happy New Year!!

  13. pao on January 6, 2014 at 9:43 am

Your laid back fedora styled hat is perfect for a New Year’s Day. Relaxed glam is you, Jean.

    • Jean on January 7, 2014 at 10:35 pm

I like that…relaxed glam. :-) I remember being told about a styling trick where you choose two words to describe your overall approach to style. Might have to adopt these words.

You look so cool, so jazzy and effortless. If Sinatra was a woman … And you wear a hangover better than any woman alive! Excellent effort. I know you did Judith proud.
I was inspired by you to remove the sleeves from an old, too-big blazer and convert it to a sleeveless blazer. Complete with finished narrowed shoulder, arm holes and altered lining, I’m thrilled with the result As it was a size big, it buttons across and takes a belt perfectly. Your fault, every bit of it!
I’ll show it off soon. Thank you for the inspiration.

    • Jean on January 7, 2014 at 10:34 pm

The blazer-vest sounds amazing. I love vests of all kinds and the fact that you dealt with linings, and narrowing the shoulders etc. is totally impressive!!! I can’t wait to see it. XXOO
