That 70’s (and 80’s) Show

WARNING:  Do not try these looks at home!  You might be embarrassed 30 years later.

It’s interesting to go through pictures from years past.  I remember who I wanted to be, how I felt (for better or worse) and I reflect on the passage of time.  Back then, I couldn’t imagine what my life would look like now.  I have to say that I’m so grateful to be here, in this moment, surrounded by love.  I still have my parents, my husband’s parents, my siblings and children.  My life is rich and complex, encouraging me to grow and share.

I still love silver bracelets and leather jackets, torn jeans and black stilettos.

Hats are forever.  (Just ask Judith.)

Now, if I could just have these boots?  I still dream about the ones that got away.

I have to say you are as gorgeous today as you are in these photos of your past. A they say…true beauty lasts forever. I love the different styles you’re wearing, especially the jacket with the dress and gold belt. WOW! Like the series Dallas. You must have done modelling…right?

    • Jean on October 20, 2012 at 12:28 am

Um yeah, on a small scale. Back then, in the early 80’s, I was in Philadelphia. Macy’s hadn’t taken over the local department stores (Wanamakers and Gimbel’s) yet. I did print and runway for those stores, for approximately four years. It was a lot of fun and I still stay in touch with my fashion-friends from that time.

You are gorgeous! I think you look beautiful in all of the above! The styles do change, though, don’t they! And those boots. I have things too that I would love to have again! Come to think of it, a pair of leather boots is on the list!

    xoxo

Jean you are stunningly beautiful in each and every photo here and I LOVE every look you’ve rocked through the years! You shouldn’t be embarrassed at all because I for one think you look amazing and confident in all of these styles from the 70s and 80s. LOVE LOVE LOVE the hairdos!

  4. sue on October 20, 2012 at 8:45 am

You were, and still are, very beautiful.

    Did you model back then?

Great photos. You were stylish in that time. I was around back then but had to admire these fashions from afar. Lucky you!

  6. Vix on October 20, 2012 at 10:54 am

Oh Jean, what can I say? You were beautiful as a young woman and, like Melanie says, true beauty must last forever because you are even lovelier now!
It’s interesting that you were still wearing your silver back then, people are often surprised that some of my often-worn jewellery has been with me since I was a teenager. I love those stack heeled boots in the last picture and I’d kill for those curls! xxx

  7. Sis on October 20, 2012 at 11:53 am

Wow! These were taken during years we were living our separate lives. I’m so glad we’re closer again.
And..now there’s absolutely no doubt where Alex’s genes come from.

      I’m glad too :-)

How fun to see these dreamy and beautiful photos of your past. You’ve always been beautiful and radiate happiness Jean. Thanks for sharing these!
I can’t get over how familiar you look in the second photo where your hair is natural. Were you on a sitcom show in the 80’s? Or maybe I just feel your fame through this blog. ;D

    • Jean on October 20, 2012 at 8:10 pm

No, no sitcom, although I was in an early music video when they were still G rated. I’ll post a link someday :-).

Great pics Jean, thanks for sharing them with us! Beauty and style through the ages. How fun it must’ve been to go through your pictures and see you then and now. What stays, what goes and what is always with you. Unbelievable I think, that I’m here like this now, in a way so unthinkable or unimaginable to myself 10, 20, 30 or more years ago.

  10. Joyatri on October 20, 2012 at 6:53 pm

Wow! You have always been stunningly beautiful. Absolutely nothing to be embarrassed about. I also envy your curls. I had long straight hair and was sleeping with all manner of uncomfortable items on my head to achieve such curls.

  11. The Style Crone on October 20, 2012 at 7:42 pm

Stunning then and NOW. How fun to see photos from the past and reflect on life though style. Of course I love the hat photos and thank you for the mention. Hats are forever!

  12. Forest City Fashionista on October 20, 2012 at 8:07 pm

I love this fashion time-travel through your life, and you looked gorgeous in every incarnation!

  13. Terri on October 20, 2012 at 8:28 pm

I always enjoy posts like this. What a mass of curls you had. And the portraits in particular look remarkably like you today. I’d also say that you had your poses down back in the day.

  14. Megan Mae on October 20, 2012 at 10:59 pm

Fashions may have changed, but beauty is forever. Each picture captures you beauty. I especially love the hat photos. Very evocative.

  15. Mrs D on October 21, 2012 at 1:54 pm

Those are some awesome photos. Wish I had photos from 20 years ago that look as good as yours. Honestly!
You looked beautiful then and now, that’s for sure.

  16. pastcaring on October 21, 2012 at 2:57 pm

I see nothing here to be embarrassed about! Beautiful then. Beautiful now. Jean, these photos are just fabulous, thank you so much for sharing them with us. And you are right, a rich and complex life full of love is the best thing of all. xxxxx

    • Jean on October 21, 2012 at 7:20 pm

Embarrassed might be a mild exaggeration. At one time that might have been true, but at this point, it’s so long ago that it’s more amusing than anything. Who knows, maybe I’ll revisit some of these looks in my old age. You never know.

  17. Kaffesoester on October 21, 2012 at 3:14 pm

At first I didn’t recognize you, I thought it was some Hollywood actress. There was no doubt that I recognized the face – and then it was you, of course! I’ve always had difficulties recognizing faces (and been deeply embarrassed so many times!), so I hope I’m excused. Anyway, those are gorgeous photos! And it’s so great to see how you’ve turned out – maybe even more gorgeous now, with all the confidence of a grown woman!

    • Jean on October 21, 2012 at 7:03 pm

I also have difficulty with faces and names as well. I can relate to “deeply embarrassed so many times”!!

  18. Amber of Butane Anvil on October 21, 2012 at 10:16 pm

Oh my goodness, Jean – you are, and always have always been, an outrageously beautiful person! What an incredible collection of photos, in all of which you look entirely self-possessed and wonderfully of the moment.

You blow me away. Thank you for sharing these treasures, xo

  19. Sheila on October 21, 2012 at 10:55 pm

Jean, you’re so beautiful and so stylish! I wish my old pictures looked that good!

  20. Christobel on October 22, 2012 at 10:30 am

Jean, your photographs are absolutely stunning! You look like a film star. I see you had an effortless, inert sense of style in your younger years too! Fashion can look so forced or contrived nowadays but you exude casual style and grace! Love the looks :)

Jean, you are a stunner then and now. Thanks for sharing the beautiful photos.

Almost everything I see in old photos, I now wish I’d kept…lol.

  24. Lisa Walter on October 26, 2012 at 10:02 am

Yes, you are and were a stunning beauty.
I especially love the seated picture in the white shirt; you look so Greta Garbo/Old Hollywood Glamour in that photograph.
Your blog is like dessert to me.

  25. Style Higher™ on October 29, 2012 at 12:19 am

Jean, you are so gorgeous, then and now! So, so stunning, wow. Nothing has changed. So amazing you have all your parents and that the family is intact too. Absolutely priceless! xo!

  26. Sheila, Style Agent 909 on October 29, 2012 at 4:04 pm

Jean, if I hadn’t known any better, I’d have thought I was looking at Vanessa Williams (who is gorgeous by the way). I can only say, you’ve gotten more beautiful with time.
