Sometimes it’s hard to do a personal style blog. I mean, think about it for a moment. The way I do it, not only does it mean taking my own pictures, it means being a stylist, makeup artist, model, writer, and technical advisor.
Translated: time consuming. I sew many of my pieces, cull the thrift stores for special items to use, and have a “real” job. Add in family and life in general, and you get the picture.
Then Instagram entered my life, @drossintogold. I could cajole other people into taking my picture since it was quick, making it much easier to capture some of the daily outfits.
If that didn’t work, I could post pictures of things I wanted to document.
Or images of other things I’m obsessed with, like bracelets.
I also love decor. Of course the principles of Dross into Gold apply there as well, under the umbrella of D.I.G Decor. (If you’re on Instagram check out #digdecor .)
In an attempt to keep blogging more regularly, it makes sense to me to occasionally share the IG pictures, since not all of you have seen them, and it’s a treasure trove of Dross into Gold images. It’s been a busy week and I’m grateful for a way to blog efficiently.
Now if I could just learn how to type.

Details: Everything in these pics is pretty much thrifted (and upcycled) and gifted.
Please come join me at Patti’s Visible Monday. I’m happy to be going over there now.
ooo, ooo, overload with goodies to look at…must pause now…
Haha!! Please take your time. Glad you’re here to peruse. I checked out your posts, plus a person you follow (aka wardrobe tales), for major sewing inspiration this past weekend. I’m ready to flip the script for spring!! Boredom is anathema. XXOO
Oh, you are the inspiration! I have been slow to get to IG, because my eyesight doesn’t let me enjoy the pics on my camera. But you’ve convinced me to oversome. Love those bracelets! xox

Thanks Patti!! My only caution about IG…it’s addictive.
Your post resonates, as sometimes it feels as though blogging is a full time job. However, there is so much about it that I enjoy, as I have met wonderful women like you, who have gloriously enhanced my life.
I also love the wonderful world of Instagram, and I adore the photos that you have posted here. A small review of the art that you so generously share with your ardent followers. That hat!!! xoxo
Yes, I love both for different reasons, as you point out. I’m making an effort to keep my blog alive because of that. Speaking of which, I’m due to stop by yours!!! See you shortly. XO
These are great! My all time favorite is the white skirt and top you madein you ode to Tamera Beardsley.Have a great week!!
I remember that one! I loved it too. I’ll have to plan another Ode post soon. Thanks for the reminder.

I remember thinking back when I was 14 and style blogging that it was definitely a one-person all-singing, all-dancing enterprise. I’ve always loved the element of control of the resulting images and the spontaneity of having an idea for an outfit that can be styled/made-up/accessorised and posed with very little faffing about. But yes, definitely very time consuming.
Lovely to see these insta images relocated to the blog. I too love the instant nature of snapping and recording , though I do find myself stalking around places like my room at my family home, thinking ‘that detail there, with the books and kitsch glasses would make a good instagram photo’!
Yes, I do the same! There’s a lot of pleasure in capturing little things, little details. I like the fact that it makes me stop and look more closely sometimes. XXOO
Hello Lovely Jean! I’m always impressed with your wide array of arm candy. Simply delicious. Blogging can be taxing on our time. That’s for sure.
Presumably your tech skills are more advanced than mine! That’s part of my problem. Your site has always impressed me as being more commerce friendly too, which helps make it all worthwhile.
How do you photograph yourself? Do you use a smartphone that takes commands, such as, “smile”, “cheese”, etc., or does your camera have a delay feature?
In this post the pictures were taken with my android phone, mostly by my husband or me. Usually I use an old digital camera on a tripod, using the timer. It’s a little hectic and rather hilarious, but it works for now. My dream is to have a “real” photographer someday.
Interesting. I wondered if you used a camera/timer. You take fabulous shots, so relaxed and professional looking, as if you had all the time in the world to compose the frame.
I modeled for a few years in the early 80’s. I guess I’ve retained some of that. I appreciate your comments!! Seems like a very long time ago.
Thank you so much for sharing you headwear and your beauty with Hat Attack!
XXXXOOOO!!!!
I’m finding I spend much more time on my IG account than on my blog – like you have pointed out, you can document something you own, or an outfit, or something interesting that crosses your path. Many days I feel much more inspired to post a photo than try to write something pithy (or not) for my blog, and I like the immediacy of it.
I’m glad people like you, Judith and Melanie are on IG so I can see what you’re up to on a semi-regular basis.
Exactly!! When life gets too crazy to compose a whole blog post, IG is wonderful for staying connected. I’m overdue, but life took over the past few weeks. Do you plan on going to NYC this spring? Let me know. XO
Jean,
It was so fantastic to meet you through Judith at Jeff’s book party last week! I love your blog and will follow you on Instagram. You have amazing style that shows your light in such a fantastic way! I’m wishing you were closer so I could know you better. I hope things went great in Keystone, that your husband had a great show and you had a wonderful trip overall. Thanks for sharing your bright sparkling self with me for a while!
Much love,
Janice
It was lovely to meet you as well!! Your fabulous energy is totally contagious;talk about sparkle! The show was a lot of fun and I’m so glad Judith et al were able to make it. We’ll be back around Valentine’s Day at the Soiled Dove. Hope you can come!! Love you. xo
