Slap Dash

April 2, 2012

Given the speed with which my life has been moving recently, it’s a minor miracle I was able to get dressed at all this morning.  Usually I have “uniforms” I can grab when things get hectic, outfits already known and loved.  But Spring/Summer has arrived so quickly amidst the insanity that I haven’t been able to dig through my stuff to figure what fits and what feels right this year!  I can’t throw on my trusty boots, scarves, and assorted layers because I’ll pass out from the heat.

I was able to get a few shots of today’s attempt to put it together as I ran out the door.  I didn’t feel very creative, but at least I can brag about the fact that everything, with the exception of the hat (DSW) and jewelry, was 100% thrifted.  Although hard to see in the photos (clicking on them will help), the top has some very beautiful heavy beading around the neck and wrist, and the J. Crew flats are a soft perforated silver leather.

I’ll be sewing again soon, working on ideas I have for the upcoming season, and can’t wait to have my “uniforms” in place!!  They say patience is a virtue; I’m working on it, y’all.

P.S. Once again, I’m linking with Patti, and also with Monday Mingle and Tammi.

For not feeling creative, you have certainly pulled yourself together here! I love how you have added the hat and vest to make this look uniquely your own. You are one of the few people I know who can take jeans to a higher level – great denim colour by the way.

Heat is a foreign concept to me here, which I complain of and also rejoice in. Layering is an accepted way of life. I hope you get the chance to breathe deep soon. Until then, your instincts are a great autopilot.

Coming from you, that’s a great compliment. I’m already slowing down a little, fortunately. Now if I can just shift into neutral and coast for a bit, I think I’ll be good.

Lovely to see you in that glorious attire, my dear friend.
    Have a glorious Monday.

Hi Jean, gosh, your “thrown together in a hurry” outfits certainly look a lot better than mine when I am faced with that kind of sitution. I’ve got to admit, having some stand-by outfits can really help save the day, but sometimes we do get caught out when the weather changes suddenly. Yer lookin’ great, girl, and patience, although a virtue, is kinda over rated, I’d say.

    Love from your twin,

I find if I can add a hat and my bangles, it makes a huge difference in the perceived “togetherness” of the outfit. Guess it worked!

  5. Patti @ NotDeadYet Style on April 2, 2012 at 9:23 am

Perfect, Jean! You pulled together a wonderful spring look, right down to the armful of bangles. Thanks so much for sharing with Visible Monday and have a lovely day.

It’s a beautiful 80+ degrees, breezy and sunny, and the flowers are popping. I can handle this. Enjoy your day as well!

Jean, thanks so much for stopping by blog. You outfit is awesome, I can’t imagine what you look like on a creative day. I have those days a lot lately, ever since the time change I have been dragging every morning. I still try my best, and you look great!

    • Jean on April 2, 2012 at 8:29 pm

I think that’s the key: try your best. Another way we say it in my house is, “Look like you care!” Pretty much sums it up, anything else is gravy.

Jean you look beautiful as always! I also believe in the power of a few well place accessories to pull together a quick look!

Very creative ‘throw together’ as far as I can see! The beads on the top and silver flats add flair to your ensemble. The hat tops the details off perfectly. I’m with you about adjusting to spring – I have forgotten everything I’ve collected for the season. It’s cold again today, so my boots might have a few more outings.

    • Jean on April 2, 2012 at 9:22 pm

      Lucky you!
