New York Review

Well, it finally happened.  After talking about it for over a year, Dross into Gold and Style Crone met up in New York!!  It couldn’t have been at a better time, just what the doctor ordered.  I loved having a reason to sew, a deadline to meet, and the prospect of FUN!!

carol and debracarol's dresses

I met wonderfully creative women, including Carol (Femme et Fleur) and Debra, both of Advanced Style fame, seen here modeling the Dross into Gold Better-than-Infinity scarves I made for them.  Debra made her hat out of paper toweling!!  Carol took the time to show us the dresses she’s in the process of designing.

They hosted a tea in honor of Judith and me, which was truly an unexpected delight.  Unfortunately I didn’t photograph the elegant table laden with tea sandwiches, sweets, and pretty things.

Fortunately, Boston-based photographer Feda Eid was able to join us for the festivities.  In addition to the pleasure of seeing her again, I’m so glad she got some great shots!! Carol also has some wonderful pictures on her blog.

the IFs

I had way too little time to enjoy the energy and conversation of Valerie and Jean, otherwise known as the Idiosyncratic Fashionistas.  Of course, there’s always time for a photo op.

Judith tried on the hat I designed and I’m definitely going to create more.  I have to add that it was Judith’s generosity that enabled me to meet this wonderful group of people. (THANK YOU JUDITH!!)

Yesterday I decided to get some photos of a piece I upcycled for the trip but never wore.  Call it an over-dress, duster, whatever!

I changed the neckline, cutting off the placket, and used it for a tie down the front.  Then I added some white fringe, which I subsequently hated.  When I cut it off almost entirely, I loved the resulting deconstructed edge. After cutting off the linen sleeves, I used upcycled silk pants to create new sleeves.

After taking the pics, I ended up wearing this outfit to run errands.

Okay, true confession:  I’ve typed this part of the post three times, only to lose what I thought I had saved.  I’m TIRED!!  I’ll provide details if you like in a future post.  I will tell you that the skirt I’m wearing at the top of the post was upcycled from thrifted pieces, and my Dross into Gold Better-than-Infinity scarf was also designed and made by me.

Hope all’s well with you, and thank you so much for visiting.  Love you.  XXOO

So glad you finally got to meet the wonderful NYC crew! Debra, Carol and the IF’s are fun and creative women and I hope to connect with all of them in October. Great to see Judith and Feda thrown into the mix too!

I really like the overdress, especially your use of the pants as sleeves.

We missed you! Next time we’ll have to coordinate the trip when you’re there. October, hmmm? Manhattan Vintage Show, perhaps? I think I’m already committed. :-(

It was fizzing for sure!!! It’s always amazing to experience the 3D version of people, to absorb their gestalt, after seeing pictures upon pictures. Loved every moment. (You and Vix have to be next!!)

Appreciate your compliments, thank you so much!! I’m so glad you enjoyed your vicarious visit; I think it’s one of the fun things about blogging, getting a chance to “travel” while staying home. My wallet likes those vicarious trips too. :-) XXOO

I’ve seen the amazing photos at Feda’s. You all are incredible women! You look so, so inspiring and gorgeous, Jean! I fell in love with this outfit immediately. Feda is fantastic in her red dress! Such a wonderful get-together to cherish friendship and creativity! xxxxx

    • Jean on June 9, 2015 at 6:45 pm

Yes, cherishing friendship and creativity! I don’t think it gets much better than that. I was so incredibly happy that Feda was able to come. I adore her as a friend and I knew she’d fit right in with the creative, artistic souls. I love the fact that she made her dress and earrings, too.

I hope you’ve gone to Carol’s blog Femme et Fleur. It’s a treat to read about some of the things that went into the creation of such a lovely tea. (I’m trying that recipe!!) LOVE YOU!!

Thank you for stopping by!! It was exceptional, almost surreal. I’ve been in a fog the last year, really, and this was a wonderful re-entry. I stopped by your blog, and I’ll be back to comment, but in the meantime…keep the red vest!!!! It’s beautiful. If you decide to jettison it, I’ll give you my address and pay for shipping. :-)

I think you’re part of the “tribe”, if you will!! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed glimpsing your colorful artistic world as well. Once I get a handle on my tech stuff and clean up all my bookmarks, you’ll be right up there. Happy to see you here. XXOO

I glimpsed your meetup with Natalia! Looked wonderful, and it reminded me of our fabulous time in Seattle. I haven’t been leaving comments or visiting too many blogs because my time is still crazy!!! I hope your summer is going well and I look forward to hearing more when I finally stop by. XXOO
