The heat is on…relentless, suffocating, and enervating. It’s August in the South. When you factor in the thunderstorms that come almost every evening with their resulting humidity, it’s hard to move. Never mind the fact that I have sloth-like tendencies to begin with.
So what’s a girl to do? Hibernate in the AC, if she’s lucky.
The problem is that I feel guilty. Crazy, I know. Guilty because I’m not being as productive as I “should” be. I have Very Important Things to do!! You know, producing things.
Recently, when I was feeling particularly unproductive, I gave myself the challenge of making three hats in one evening. I figured they’d provide more bang for the buck, style-wise. I made two. Not bad.
I’d been wanting to use more upcycled denim, and I enjoyed the way it handled for these pieces. Of course, I second-guessed them after they were done. Oh, they’re not good enough, they aren’t “special” enough etc. Amazing what those little voices in your head can come up with.
I almost didn’t post this picture on my Instagram feed for the same reasons. Oh, it’s a selfie, it’s not really showing that skirt I made, it’s not a great picture, etc. But I kinda liked it anyway, so I put it up.
Because of the lovely response I got from this picture, I was inspired to pull out more white linen today. Note to self: wonderful energy will come back to you when you’re authentic.
It’s hot, and I don’t have a clue other than trying my best to be loving and supportive to those who need me, make something I respect, and believe that my small efforts will somehow make a difference in this world.
The ripple effect is a powerful force: it just takes a little willingness to let go with love, and the rest will follow. Maybe that’s the lesson in this Summer heat! Ease up, chill out, lighten up!! Okay, OKAY I get it.
So, when will Fall be here?
