Gray Day

Today didn’t start out like this.  It really just happens, I swear, kind of like dominoes.

It all began here…with the shirt to be exact.  I had to get out the door earlier and faster than I like, so after fumbling around in my closet, the softness of this giant shirt won since I really wanted to be in pajamas.  Next came the skirt, again super easy to wear, and the scarf fell right in line.

The coat was next, making me happy because this was my first opportunity to wear it.  It was $3 at a thrift store that I rarely get a chance to visit.  The quality of the wool, the quietly embroidered cuffs, and the simple lines appealed to me.

Since it was actually pretty cold today, the hat and wrap made sense.  I mean, if you’re gonna get dressed, may as well layer it on when you can.

So that’s how it all happened, in case you were wondering.  You probably weren’t, but at least it gave me something to say.  Today it’s just not that deep. :-)

Thanks for hanging out with me.

Details: Skirt, scarf, wool wrap-upcycled from thrifted materials.  Shirt and coat-thrifted.  Hat-DSW I think.  If you want a closer look, click on the pics once, and then again.

For the first time in a very long time, I’m headed over to Patti’s Visible Monday.  Hope you make it too!

I just sent you an email. Hope you got it! :-)

You are so elegant, and so creative. I find those big shirts get too much to wade through after a while. But I enjoy them for a bit.
The wrap over the coat is lovely, and the embroidered cuffs are divine!
Your hat is perfect on you.
Glad it all came together despite the rushed start.

I’m loving all those big shirts. I think the trick is to make sure the fabric isn’t too thick or bulky, but rather drapey. Rayon and silk are good for that. This one is a nice broken-in rayon, another reason to love second-hand stuff. :-)

I love grey and burgundy together. Very chic.

I like them together too. I remember hating “maroon”, the color of my high school gym suit (yes, I had one back in the day), but wine or burgundy can be quite nice. XXOO

You add layers of soft drapery in a completely elegant way, Jean – love the warm burgundy and the wonderful embroidery on those cuffs.
It’s always a joy to hang out with you! xxx

Thanks Curtise. I really hope that someday we’ll hang out in person!! Just think…thrifting, interesting architecture, food and drink, and most of all, conversation and laughter. :-)

I enjoy hearing about other women’s thought process when they are putting an outfit together. If I don’t have an outfit planned ahead of time, I can spend much too much time trying various pieces to see what feels like “me” on that particular day.

That coat was a sweet score for $3 – the embroidery is so pretty!

A wonderful description of your dressing process and the result is fabulous! Love the colours together and adore that feather trimmed trilby! xxx

You’re a pro when it comes to layering. I’m swooning over the addition of stripes and your thrifted coat is a stunner. The purple hat is the perfect topper for your layered beauty. Sounds like a meditative and mindful process to me.

Yes, it was exactly that. I always think of you when my daily meditation consists of putting an outfit together. I think you were the first person I encountered who put it in those terms. Needless to say, it immediately resonated.

I just love clicking on your site, hoping, hoping, for a new outfit to study and YES, there it is! Your a master at putting thing together and looking sharp and elegant. Seeing a woman covered up is refreshing.

    • Jean on February 20, 2016 at 6:04 pm

Leah, thank you so much!! You made me smile because I do the same thing, clicking on sites I like for outfits to study. So glad I can pass it on. Interesting too that you mention covered up; I’ve always been that way for the most part. It’s my comfort zone, and I love loose and flowy. I enjoy studying non-western fashion for that reason.

Thank you again for stopping by!! :-)

Oh, I luv it Jean. You look so stately and comfortable at the same time. And I appreciate your way of getting dressed. Starting with one thing and that leads to another and another and wham, bang, thank you m’am. You’re done and looking good. Of the moment.
