Green Day

A silk shirt from the ’80’s sang it’s siren song to me as I combed the racks at Goodwill.  I almost left it behind, but then I did an “oh what the hell” toss into my cart.  It was senior citizens’ day so I got a 25% discount, bringing the price down to roughly  $2.

The tag proclaimed it as wearable art, and I think I have to agree even if it was undoubtedly mass produced.  It’s not the first Bob Mackie I’ve scored but it might be my favorite.

I was vacillating between wearing it with beautifully beaded African sandals and a black bag, or with minimalist flip flops and an embroidered bag.

The bag won, and so did the hat.  At least for today, that is.

The bracelets were a no-brainer and the striped dress was part of the plan from the start. I must have been unconsciously vibing with Sacramento and Rosy!!  The cool part?  Tomorrow’s another day and another opportunity.

Some things just keep you going, you know?  I hope you’ve found your thing this week.  XXOO

Outfit details: Silk shirt, striped dress, beaded sandals, woven bracelets-all thrifted, serpent ring-from my mom, embroidered bag-street vendor in NY, earrings-can’t remember, plain sandals-Kenneth Cole Reaction from outlet, hat-DSW.  Click on the photos once, then again, for details.

Don’t forget to head over to Patti’s.  I just heard that Visible Monday is on vacation this week, but check her out anyway.

IMPORTANT UPDATE!!  I just made it back in time to don my hat and head over to the Style Crone’s Hat Attack!!   See you there!!!

I found this amazing vintage hat at Rag O Rama, a buy/sell/trade store similar to Buffalo Exchange.  What made it really extraordinary was that it fit my head!!

I’ve got some ideas for accessories but haven’t put it all together yet.  However, I think I’m going to be busy working on something else for the next post.  There was a box waiting for me when I got home today. It contained something billowy and yellow!!!!  My imagination is going crazy…!  XXOO

I totally agree with you that the bag embroidered won this time … this outfit is so gorgeous! You have a great sense of elegance and balance to combine all these garments perfectly! Thank you for your link to my blog, I’m going to fix this right now, I link you too … Hugs my dear friend.

Thank you so much, and hugs to you too!!!

I love the unexpected combination of the silky green of the blouse and the jersey stripes. And I love your colourful boho accessories (that bag is amazing)- they’re the sort of thing I’d wear everyday if I could wear whatever I wanted (sadly need to be more formal for the day job!).

    • Jean on August 30, 2013 at 3:39 pm

Every so often I have a desire to wear “grown up” clothes, like a suit and pumps, with hose and everything. But then it just feels so contrived for my life, and so not like me, that I end up going back to my usual style fare. I do appreciate that look done well, though. I know you do your “formal” clothes exquisitely.

Green with Black & White Stripes. Two of my favorite things. Gorgeous!

Oh Jean, how utterly fabulous! This colour is wonderfully vibrant on you, and I love all of the accessorization options – all great, the bangles just perfect. Not only are you “kept going,” I am uplifted too! Big love, xoxoxo

I find it almost impossible to leave behind any kind of silk shirt in a charity shop, so am amazed you hesitated over this beauty! However, the bit that really tripped me up in your text was the reference to senior citizens’ day – (I’m imagining that the cashier can’t have believed you were really eligible for the discount).
Beautifully put together outfit, with the fedora as a final, perfect touch.

I had to show my driver’s license but I didn’t mind.

Emerald and stripes- a winning combo on a winning lady! You look gorgeously breathtaking Jean. As usual.

  8. Vix on September 1, 2013 at 2:59 pm

I don’t think I’ve seen you in emerald green before – it’s gorgeous and suits you so much! Love that striped dress – I’ve seen lots of bloggers in striped maxis but they always play it safe, rarely add colour and the dress dominates – you own it, baby! xxxx

It is probably the most beautiful green day. You always bring the finest things together. Always with a smile and a twist. The green color is so beautiful for you and it is very fine with the small embroidery – and stripes just perfect :)

The toss of the green silk shirt into the cart was spontaneity at its best. It’s a great color on you, and adding the colorful bag, bracelets and beaded sandals, along with the striped dress, adds up to a brilliant composition. Your artistic flair never fails to surprise and delight!

    Thinking of you this week!

Love the green with the stripes. I believe the Bob Mackie’s Wearable Art is his line sold on QVC. Great deal.

    • Jean on September 1, 2013 at 8:17 pm

Thanks for the info. I almost never watch TV so I wouldn’t have know about QVC.

What a deal on that blouse! And I really like that hat, it looks awesome on you! You got a billowy and yellow something in the mail? Can’t wait!! :-D!!! oxxoxo

  13. The Style Crone on September 1, 2013 at 11:51 pm

I’ve already commented Jean, but here I am back and loving this beauty of a vintage hat. How exciting to find a hat that fits and looks fantastic as well. Love the colors and the shape, and how it is accessorized by your beautiful smile. I’m very excited that you linked up with Hat Attack today!

And also excited to see what you create with the yellow and billowy item that was waiting for your return.

Go green and stripes! A great combination, nicely framed with the bag and bangles. Thanks for linking up with 52 Pick-me-up!

  15. Lynn Dylan on September 2, 2013 at 2:54 pm

Great shirt! I recently posted about my love of the color cyan or teal. Wish I could go totally green, but too much green and I start looking green. LOL. But it looks great on you! And that hat is over the top!! By the way, it’s just unbelievale to think that you could be a senior citizen anywhere.

  16. Tamera on September 3, 2013 at 2:41 pm

Wow–that blouse is wearable art–gorgeous with the striped skirt and the awesome bag!!
    I love your braidy-wrappy hat!!

You sure do know how to combine you some graphics, Beautiful! Looking very sporty in green. Bob Mackie … who but us old girls know how cool he was as a designer … IS, I should say. He’s only in his 70’s and still perking along. I would have thought him much older.
I cannot believe you get a senior discount. You look way too young.
    Really, not just joshing.
And you look great in your hat!

  18. MARLA ROBINSON on September 4, 2013 at 6:03 am

    you always look so elegant

I am enjoying your green with the stripes… the green is a color I have yet to mix with my stripe collection..I love how fresh it looks! I just added some neon fushia to mine today to meet a monthly fashion challenge by the Rich Life on a Budget… I don’t know if you have visited Adrienne’s blog… but I think you enjoy participating in her monthly round ups. She is also a thrift store wiz… just like yourself! If you are interested I have her link on my blog today :)

I am SO excited to see what you foo with the skirt!!

Delicious green top. And all the choices you made to create this day’s ensemble was fun to see happening. And that hat! So cool, and made for you.
ooooo, and you somehow got a hold of the YTS! kudos to you, kiddo.

I put in my request long ago, and then whined. Squeaky wheel and all that; I guess it works.

I absolutely adore your style!!! So great to find your blog! I hope to look this great at 60!
