Today has been a good day. I didn’t have to set my alarm or look at the time. I ran into a wonderful friend whom I hadn’t seen in a long time. I had the opportunity to browse in my closet and meditate on what I felt like wearing and blogging about.
The striped cardigan I’d recently thrifted fit perfectly under my upcycled sweater vest, creating another layer of interest. I added a new-to-me silver bangle to my collection, along with an amazing ring, both found at a thrift store.
I was happy to be wearing my vest again after it’s trip to California to be featured in Altered Couture Magazine.
I hadn’t worn this upcycled silk and cashmere scarf in a long time. After wrapping it around my neck, I realized that the silk matched the insert in the back of the vest.
This was also the debut of my new shoes. I received an email announcing a major sale at a very exclusive shoe store, so naturally I had to go check it out, right? I mean, I’ve never bought anything there ($$$$) but I’ve spent many a delightful moment browsing. These were love at first sight and seriously marked down. What would you have done? I rest my case.
Yes, it was a good day. I hope yours has gone well, too.
Outfit details: Hat-DSW, tank dress-$5 at Nordstrom Rack, striped cardigan-Norma Kamali for Walmart (thrifted), ring and bracelet-Rag O Rama, earrings-craft fair, scarf and sweater-upcycled from thrifted materials, fringed bag-consignment store, boots-SixtySeven. Sorry these pictures are so dark. Clicking on them once, and then again, will enable you to see more detail.
Since I felt very visible today, I’ll be joining all my friends (finally!) at Patti‘s Visible Monday. See you there.

Whoo! SO happy to see you! I love those narrow stripes and stunning ring, and your new bootie-roos make me weak. Welcome home, famous vest! Glad you didn’t forget where you came from.
I was just thinking about you as I posted this, because I was thinking about you when I got the boots!! XXOO
Ooh, your jacket is FAMOUS! First the jacket, then the rest of your upcycled wardrobe, and then a whole new career in modelling beckons you too, Jean!
You look so chic and warm and cosy, layered up with your usual style and aplomb. Love the ring and bangle, and those boots made me think of Amber too, they are fabulous.
You sound cheery, Jean, that’s good! xxxxx
It must so exciting to see your garments featured in a magazine! I love this layered look – looks very cosy and warm as well as elegant. I’d have bought the shoes – I love the chain detail on the back!
Wow, it was a good day and the owning a famous vest is mega cool! I hope this good day is followed by many, many more! (love the boots, BTW)
Ah yes, Altered Couture. Did I tell you yet that my true love bought it for me? I was so impressed to see your amazing creations throughout the magazine. And they were the best ones too! Totally cool. And you’re looking very chic in your layers of blacks and greys and silver.
Those are the cutest boots! I’d love to own some pointy toed booties like that. I love seeing you in your drapey sweaters and altered couture!
Glad your cardi-vest made it home safely, Jean. It’s now a famous magazine model! You look lovely as always in your cosy layers.
Hi Jean!
Looking wonderful, super model you are, love your lovely, warm layers!
I will have a look at altered couture, see if i can get it on line
Ariane xxxx
Yes I would have done! (bought the fab shoes) – you look gorgeous dear Jean, and congrats again on your magazine accomplishments. Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday!
I’m always so impressed by your layering – I think you provide something of a master class in it! And how fabulous to see your creations featured in Altered Couture too.
Love the boots and congrats on the article!
Your striped cardigan is definitely a beautiful layering piece with this outfit. Great boots!
Hooray for gorgeous boots! I too would have crumbled. I love a good deal, especially on boots.
You look fantastic! Full stop. Wonderful.
So good to see you back and in another fabulously layered ensemble. You must be very happy to have your vest back after its show stopper appearance in Altered Couture. And beautiful thrifting treasures, I must say! Great additions to your collections.
How could you resist love at first site. The booties are stunning, speaking of collections. I’m going to have to check out the site immediately.
It is wonderful to hear that you had great day. It shows in the pictures too! Cool shoes!
What a fabulously styled outfit! And those booties.. they look like they will provide years of enjoyment!
Those boots are amazing.
Hello, Jean! Art on heels. Or in boots! Lots to think about when I see your outfits, and you always look so sleek in them. Beautiful as always.
Can’t come out and play at VM (changing some tools and toys) but wanted to stop by and say howdy.
How fabulous do you look!! The vest is amazing!! I definitely would’ve jumped on those boots-they are AWESOME with the chain detail!
You look so damn good! I love those boots- and can see many many years of wear in them!
I thought the same thing about the boots when I saw them. They are forever, with classic rock and roll/ biker elements. Plus they’re comfortable?! These are keepers.
Thanks so much for your comment on my blog, Jean. I am having a few problems with it at the moment, which is preventing me from posting, so it was FABULOUS to get a comment! Love your outfits. Soon birthday time for us!!
Cheers,
Rosemary from http://www.foreveronthecatwalkoflife.blogspot.com
Hi again Jean. Still can’t get photos up on the blog, so in desparation I put on a story I wrote. Would you do me a favour and be so kind as to have a look? It’s not long, and I really need my pals to help me get the blog activated again. So, if you don’t mind…. (it’s a fashion horror story.)
Much love,
Rosemary from http://www.foreveronthecatwalkoflife.blogspot.com
I just came back from visiting your blog! A fashion horror story, indeed, at least for some. Thanks for making me smile.
Famous and deservedly so! That jacket is wonderful and I’m drooling over your silver and those bad ass boots too! Loved seeing your gorgeous self, your man and Judith all together, my favourite blog photo of the year so far! xxxx
What a subtle but eye-catching blend of textures and colors. It does indeed sound like a perfect day, relaxed with no commitments.
Your comment on my post about having clothes a long time made me feel so sad! I know how you feel as I had saved some clothes from the 1970s that got thrown out (not by me!). It pains me to think about how I planned to have them my whole life and now they’re gone.
I enjoyed hearing about your Mexican rebozo. Do you remember the name of the shop in Cambridge where you bought it? Just as you had lace-up Frye boots, I had lace-up Timberland boots that I wore with a long blue wool cape (one of the things that got thrown out). You’re right, it is necessary to maintain the same size to fit into the same clothes all these decades. Being able to wear clothes I already own is one of my main motivators!
Hi Jean, many thanks for your comment on my blog and the fashion story, “It Seemed like the End of the World at the Time.” I think I have the photos sorted out now, but we’ll see when I do my next post. Many thanks for your support and friendship!
Much love from England,
Rosemary from http://www.foreveronthecatwalkoflife.blogspot.com
Those boots are fantastic, and I can see that they fit right in with the rest of your wardrobe – a very wise buy! Your outfit is lovely, and your silver collection is amazing!
Shoes win every time…lol. Wow, that ring, Jean, what an exquisite find. I’m glad you beautiful vest made it home!
Jean…..you have the most amazing style! As I’m looking at your pictures, I’m realizing that you are one of those few bloggers who truly have a strong signature style all their own! And it’s so YOU and looks amazing in you! Good for you for getting the shoes! When you thrift as much as week do, it doesn’t feel so guilt ridden to buy retail (on a good sale!!) every now and then! Hugs girly!!! Serene
