It’s official. As of November 1st, the issue is on the newsstands. As you probably know, I’m passionate about upcycling. I love taking a thrifted garment and re-designing it, turning it into something special.
Altered Couture magazine celebrates that artistic expression, featuring pieces from artists all over the world. With the encouragement of the amazing Pat Berryhill (her dress is on the cover!), I submitted a lot of my beloved pieces for consideration. As I posted here, it was hard to let my creations go. I actually make them for myself, wearing them continuously, and I miss them. However, the gratification of seeing them featured in such a beautiful magazine makes letting them go worthwhile.
I never imagined that I’d see my creations in print.
It’s time to get back to the drawing board.
Thank you Altered Couture for your support! I’m ready to dive back into my sewing room.
Today’s outfit consisted of : H&M jeans, Nordstrom rack hat, Ikat scarf purchased in the ’80′s, thrifted sleeveless dress worn as coat, upcycled cashmere “armlets”, t-shirt ?, thrifted boots and earrings. But really? It was so warm, I shed the hat and armlets and wished I had flip flops to replace the boots. I survived, but barely.
I’ll be linking up with Patti at Not Dead Yet Style- Visible Monday. See you there.

Wow Jean, a celebrity right in my own backyard, I mean blogyard. Your creations are getting their deserved feature in the spotlight, how fun to see your own work in magazine pages. My favorite is your patchwork sweater. Its genius. I’m still on the lookout for some great distressed jeans. They’re hard to find not in the junior sizes with a low low waist. Did you distress those yourself?
These so-called boy-friend jeans are from H&M. I love them. I’m ambivalent about H&M in general, given the fast-fashion concerns. But these aren’t particularly low waisted and they’re super comfortable. Whenever I go thrifting, I wear these or my denim skirt. Everything looks good with them.
It’s great to see you recognized for your incredible artistic vision and upcycling skills. They should have used you as the model though because you are so gorgeous. How exciting. Superstar!! This is the first of many features for you…
Your designs are so fabulous you need your own book! I never buy magazines but I would buy that one for sure. I always feel inspired to get creative after visiting you.
Send me some of that heat, I’ve forgotten what “warm” feel like! xxx
Congrats on being featured! You know Vix is right – maybe you should write a book!
You look fantastic in those boyfriend style jeans!
I love that magazine. I always intend to do some projects like that but never seem to get to it. I did do some a few years ago – put rhinestones on one, sequins on another, and painted some. But I have yet to chop something up and re-sew it.
Congratulations on your items being featured! It must be so cool to look in a magazine and see your creations. I’ll have to look for it at Barnes & Noble. Thanks for sharing it with us!
Congrats, Jean! Your beautiful clothes photograph wonderfully. I hope this isn’t a stupid question, but are they going to send your beloved clothes back?
You inspired me to start collecting vintage silver bracelets. As small as my wrists are, and as much as I love bangles and wearing silver, I can’t believe I never thought of this before
Check on line for bracelets. Maybe ebay. Know that many early vintage pieces will be stamped sterling, but in fact they’re not what we consider sterling today. That doesn’t make them any less wonderful, just know what you’re getting and paying for.
Jean, that is so awesome to have your creativity showcased in that magazine – Congratulations!
I have missed out on something wonderful. First, heartiest congratulations on the recognition of your beautiful and evocative work. In print, yet! Second, thank you for introducing “Altered Couture” to us all. Down here in MidNowhere, I haven’t seen an issue, but you can be sure I will and this very afternoon! Huzzah, you!
Dude, you rock.
Jan
How fantastic to see your upcycled pieces in print! You’re famous, darling Jean! No less than you deserve, of course, for all your creativity and skill. You look gorgeous in your casual jeans and hat, even if you did overheat! xxxx
Congratulations! You deserve the recognition for your altered couture! I will have to see if I can find this magazine at Barnes & Noble (our only remaining large bookstore.)
How exciting to see your upcycled masterpieces published! I agree that you should have been modeling them. I haven’t seen Altered Couture before but I’ll look for it when I get back to the States.
You should definitely plan a trip to the UK. It has the perfect climate for wearing your warm and cozy creations
Major congratulations! You deserve to be featured for your creativity, Jean, and this magazine looks just the right place! Thanks for sharing this news with us at Visible Monday – I shall be looking for the magazine at the bookstore.
Wow, Jean, I had no idea that you did this – I love your creativity, and how amazingly cool to be featured in a magazine! Will you get your stuff back? I am going to look for this magazine at the book store!
Congratulations!
Yes, I’ll get them back. I’m waiting anxiously as we speak because I’m ready to wear them now!!
Love the sassy hat!
Congratulations on the magazine!
I love the idea of wearing a button down dress as a coat!
Congratulations Jean. I remember that post when you spoke of sending your creations off. If anybody’s designs deserve to be in there, it’s yours. I’m going to look for that magazine today.
As always, loving your easy, chic, cool, creative outfit.
Jean, this is so awesome! I am so proud of you for being able to let those creations fly away to inspire others. I love your beautiful smile.
I am just getting into thrifting and altering clothing in a big way. Necessity being the mother of invention and a low cash flow does wonders for creativity. Hooray for you on getting into such a well recognized magazine. That would be so exciting. Keep up the creative flow.
Congratulations Jeans. A great reward for your talent!
OMG–I will have to check this out!! love the magazine!! Congrats Jean!!
How absolutely wonderful Jean. I remember you saying you had sent away some of your work, but then you hadn’t mentioned anything about it… How cool it this?!!! I can’t wait to get the magazine. I hadn’t seen it before, but then I don’t really look at mags usually, but I definitely want this one. Congratulations on getting the recognition you deserve. I’m so happy for you! Now let me go back and see what you’re wearing…
Congratulations Jean! I’m not at all surprised, your ideas are brilliant and original. If I lived in the US I’d buy this magazine right away – but maybe the have a website?
I found the magazine … here in the sticks! Such a beautiful design, and the photography did it justice, don’t you think? Thanks for introducing us to this resource. So many great ideas to consider! Now, if they’d just put out a digital edition. As I said earlier, you ROCK, Jean.
Thank you!! Glad to know you were able to find it.
Congratulations! Will you get your items back? And I’m wondering how I might track down a print copy of this magazine.
I know that Barnes and Noble carries it. Where else, I’m not sure. And yes, I will get them back.
Congratulations! It must be thrilling to be featured in a magazine. I find it fun to rearrange clothing that I have thrifted, and if I can find this magazine featuring you, I will buy it for sure! I recently purchased a pair of faded Moschino Jeans that were two large. Just what I wanted. I was able to tweak them to a perfect boyfriend jean. You look amazing in yours by the way.
Holy cow! How cool is this! I knew you were creative but a celebrity? Wow!
I’m so impressed and honored to know you! Congrats! I’ll need to find the magazine now. I may ask you to sign it…will you?
LOVE love your outfit!
What a brilliant idea for a magazine & congrats on being featured. Love your outfit today!

And Congrats well done!
awesome! thanks for sharing!
Congratulations, Jean!!! Your work is incredibly beautiful and luxurious, and this feature is entirely well-deserved. You are a treasure! So glad your gorgeous creations are on their way back to you now.
Today’s outfit is lovely and deceptively simple – I especially like how the last photo shows off the dramatic silhouette and how beautifully the weights and proportions of everything works together. xo
Congratulations Jean on being in that wonderful magazine! How incredible to see your style, your fashion on the glossy pages!! I do hope you got your things back. From the photos, it looks like a great magazine. Is it only available in the US?
Thanks too for your comments on my blog about buying the boots in France. You are totally right, it seems that all of us Pisces seem to have a “shoe thing.” Maybe we’re all mermaids looking for our feet?
Much love from England,

Congrats Jean! I have many wraps and shawls, so your cowl wrap is my fave. I can’t wait to go thrifting to find sweaters to make one. You have inspired me to look at things in a totally different light. Continued success and thank you for sharing your talents.
How incredibly exciting to have your pieces in a magazine! Congrats, congrats, Jean! The images look amazing and showcase your beautiful creations.
Congratulations Jean! I’m going out tomorrow to find the magazine! It’s wonderful that your talents and skills are recognized in this way and I can’t decide which creation is my favorite. I’m sure that this is just the first of many accolades.
Hat, boots, scarf, boots. What could be better? And I love the idea of wearing a sleeveless dress as a coat!

That’s amazing, Jean, a huge congratulations to you, you must be so chuffed! xo
We haven’t got the magazine in my local stores yet here in western Canada. I’m still waiting impatiently! Congrats on your feature, Jean!
Congratulations on the awesome feature, your pieces are beautiful.
Oh this is great! I need YOU to live nearby…. Love the creations you make!
Congrats! What an honor, but you deserve it. Love your outfit.
