A Fresh Start

January 13, 2016

Can I say I’m glad?  You know, that 2015 is over?  Somehow a breeze seemed to stir as the ball dropped in NY.  There were whispers of good things to come, fresh ideas to explore, a chance to expand instead of shrink and to act instead of react.

Yup, it’s a new year.  Got up, got dressed and it felt pretty good.  The weather is just where I like it, brisk with sunshine.  The layers all came together and I even had time to snap a few pictures.  This counts for a lot.

I thrifted this coat a month or so ago, and woke up thinking Today is the Day.

The next few pictures are from the end of THAT year.  Since I don’t have still life shots of today’s accessories, I’ll gratuitously throw them in.

I’m pretty sure the missing hand and cut-off head were bothering me when I looked at this first one.   The scarf turned out well though.  Just noticed it’s the same pair of pants in today’s shoot.  Guess I like them.

This photoshoot never got off the ground.  Can’t remember why.

On this attempt, most of the pictures had a door handle growing out of my head.  I like the color of the blouse though, and will undoubtedly revisit this.

I’ve got my sewing machines oiled up and ready to go.  Ideas are swirling in my head as I formulate plots and plans.  Here’s to a truly NEW year.  XXOO

Outfit 1) White Doc Martens-on sale at consignment store (I cut off the “roper boot” flaps).  White shirt, vest, pants, coat, scarf-all thrifted.  Spikey hat-Dross into Gold, made with thrifted and upcycled materials.

Outfit 2) Hat and sweater-can’t remember it’s been so long.  Long scarf-Dross into Gold, made with thrifted and upcycled materials.  Pants-thrifted.  Boots-splurge purchase when I went to Portland.  Earrings-Lynzee Lynx.

Outfit 3) Wide leg pants-thrifted.  Long sweater-can’t remember.  Skinny scarf and another spikey hat-Dross into Gold, made with thrifted and upcycled materials.  Same Doc Martens as above.  Jewelry from my collection.

Outfit 4)  Blouse-thrifted.  Skirt-Dross into Gold, made with thrifted and upcycled materials.  Necklace-Buffalo Exchange.  Ring-flea market.

For those who might not know, click on the photos once and then again to see more detail.

Until next time……

Yea, so good to see you back, Jean. And looking so fine in your ensembles (as always). Such groovy headwear, you’re bound to pickup extraordinary inspiration wearing them. And pointed toe, white Doc Martens! Wow. I have to go back and check out all the pix embiggened now – don’t want to miss all the lovely details.

I nearly lost it when I saw the boots. I love the tapered toe and the fact they’re white. I’m still breaking them in (perfect with thick socks). Because I can’t make shoes (yet, maybe!) I will spend a little more than rock bottom thrift prices on footwear. I remember your apology about the eBay shoes.

Plan on having more actual upcycles as I get back in the swing. As always, appreciate your talent and Paoglow. Yup, just made that up. When you can’t find the word that best expresses that “it”, create one. Love you.

Gah. You’re so gorgeous! And those men’s pants are heaven on you. You’re silhouettes are amazing and you accessorize better than anyone I know. So happy to see you!

Can you believe it’s been what, 2 years since we hung out in Portland? Wow. So glad see you too. I loved seeing you on IG and so happy to reconnect. I find time to be very elusive but I’m trying to get back to my favorite blogs…like yours! Looking forward to catching up. XXOO

Groovy headwear indeed! You just always look beautiful even with missing hands and door handles growing out of your head. Yeah. Good bye to 2015. Glad to see it go.

Haha! And that’s not the worst of it. One of these days I’m going to post a before and after. I just struggle with the thought that the before will be available for an eternity to any and all. But then again, why should I care? Vanity I suppose. :-) Hope you have a fab 2016. XO

Happy to see you back on Dross and looking spectacular, as always. Loving your headwear and you HAIR. The white Doc Martens are a special touch.

Hoping that 2016 will be filled with wonder, for you and your family. xoxo

I’m happy to be back as well and to share inspiration with friends. They have truly sustained me as you know, being one of them. I’m grateful forever. :-)

Jean! I don’t care what you’re wearing (although it’s always gorgeous and inspiring and effortlessly stylish, of course) and I don’t care whether there are hands and heads missing, and door handles where there shouldn’t be door handles – you’re BACK! And I couldn’t be more delighted to see you!
Yes, let’s see what 2016 brings – projects and ideas and joy, hopefully. xxxx

    • Jean on January 18, 2016 at 6:07 pm

YES! I’m going with as much joy as possible. I’ve read that as you stop fighting the hard stuff and sit empty for awhile, the joy has space to emerge. I can feel your loving energy from here and you’ve made me so happy. I think that counts as joy!! Sure feels like it. XXOO

Dear Jean, you look lovely and gorgeous – as you always do, in your very unique original outfits. The hats are so fun and joyful! They really add something to your sophisticated, elegant style. I’m wishing you a very happy, filled with laughter and joy new year. May the people who truly love you be well and by your side. Lots of love to you!

    • Jean on January 21, 2016 at 8:53 pm

Natalia!! It’s so wonderful to hear from you. I’m guessing you’ve pressed the re-set button too. I was so sad when I saw your post about discontinuing your blog, and ecstatic when I happened to see you back. Don’t you love having the right to change your mind?! :-) I’m excited about a new year, a chance to refine and reinvent.

Sending much, much love to you and yours. I’m looking forward to seeing more of your superb personal style and absorbing your lovely, poignant words as you navigate life. Love you.

Like everyone else, I’m so glad to see your new posts. You have dashing style, over the top, yet so practical and dramatic. Keep on, you’re an inspiration. Does Bill Cunningham, NY Times, know you?

    • Jean on January 31, 2016 at 8:31 pm

I don’t think he does, but you’re welcome to tell him! :-) Thank you so much for your support and kind words. I plan on posting more this year so please keep checking back. It’s lovely to see you here. XXOO
