A Collage

A Collage 3:4

Here is a glimpse of the week in pictures taken with my phone.  (Yes, that’s a disclaimer.)  First up, going to work at a studio.  I usually work from home so it was fun to get dressed and go somewhere.  I upcycled the top from a drapey sweater; I wore it for my very first outfit post here.

I also went to the dentist, unknowingly coordinating with their decor.  I wore the Free People bellbottoms that I customized with trim, along with my thrifted Swedish clogs and  DSW hat.

Did some thrifting and found these place mats and napkins.  Might turn them into a bag, not sure.  I also draped my little workstation with a piece of gorgeous handwoven wool that started out as a skirt, discovered in a vintage shop when I was with Melanie in Vancouver.  (Read more here.)  I may use it for a piece of clothing in the future, but for now I get to enjoy it every time I sit down at my laptop.

I posted a bunch of pictures on Instagram (I’m @drossintogold), including a shot of my new shoes.  Lynzee Lynx, my lovely “daughter-in-love”, gave them to me recently. Bella of The Citizen Rosebud was kind enough to put them on Wednesday’s Shoe Shine.  As much as I love shoes, it’s about time I made an appearance.  Thank you Bella for your assistance!  I also posted a shot of this lovely tree.

A Collage Joey

I listened to Joey play the piano (his second instrument) as the sun poured in the window.

A Collage Alex 2

Seeing Alex’s new home and admiring her gorgeous bedroom was also a high point of the week.

So there you have it.  Nothing deep, just moving along.  Knowing me, I’ll probably be more philosophical next time, but for now it is what it is.  Oh yeah, the shoes are by H&M.

Have a great week.  XXOO

If you click on the pictures once, and then again, you’ll be able to see more detail.  Many thanks to Sarah for taking the impromptu shots at the studio.

Even though this was last week, I wanted to share it on Visible Monday, courtesy of Patti at Not Dead Yet Style.  Thanks Patti!!

Love the shoes, Jean…thanks for letting us know where you found them! I would love to get a pair for my own daughter! Have a great week!

    • Jean on April 14, 2014 at 5:34 pm

They are 2 years old at least so I don’t know if they’re still available. Maybe on e-bay?

I thoroughly enjoyed your week with you, Jean! It was filled with beautiful things and friends, and art, and the work which you love, and thrifting – what else you need to feel happy and satisfied? Well, maybe a few more things. But these are wonderful! :)

    • Jean on April 14, 2014 at 5:37 pm

Yes, I was feeling very wealthy this week with all the things you mention. I agree, I don’t need much more to be happy and satisfied.

Sometimes you just want to post some photos from your week with no heavy duty commentary. I remember my first year or two of my blog where I barely wrote anything at all. The shoes are very cute, and I like the red fabric – it would make a cool bag.

    • Jean on April 14, 2014 at 5:38 pm

Exactly. My brain just wasn’t there for a change. I think the placemats would make an interesting bag, although I currently have two on my table. Decisions decisions.

I like a collage-y post; a little bit of this, a little bit of that, outfits and rooms and people and shoes and trees, it’s all good!
You always look so cool and elegant and have such a great signature style, Jean, it’s a joy to see your upcycled pieces. Hope all is well with you. Oh, and I always love it when your handsome man gets in on the blog action too! xxx

    • Jean on April 14, 2014 at 5:40 pm

I told him what you said and he admitted he doesn’t mind a little flattery. You put a big smile on his face (and mine). Love you!!

Those placemats are exactly what I need to finish off a revamped jacket – I must go to Goodwill and look for something similar.

Your house is beautiful, and you look beautiful lounging on couches in your various travels!

If you find some, be careful. I always wash or clean everything the minute it hits the door and I was impatient. I washed these with a few other reddish pieces, but they ran so much, there were dye marks on the other things. Won’t do that again.

Love the ‘peek into your week.’ The gorgeous details of your ensembles and decor. Your family and your SHOES. And the mannequin by your work space. A beautiful collage of a vibrant life well lived.

    • Jean on April 16, 2014 at 6:21 pm

I have good examples to emulate, such as yourself. :-)

    Great iPhone pics!!!!

Thanks Becky!! I always stress over my picture taking, being the semi-perfectionist that I try to not be. I love IG because of the filters. XXOO

What a treat to see into your home, and into your life in a different way! You’re an artist, no doubt! How lovely it must be to have your husband play for you. Joey looks so handsome, and ineffably cool! Lucky you, and lucky him!

    • Jean on April 16, 2014 at 6:23 pm

It really is a joy to hear him play. I just sort of melt into the sofa and sit as long as possible.

You look the part of the star sitting there in the studio. Truly, your upcycling is artistry. And love. those. shoes.
Too bad we can’t hear Joey at the piano – I expect to see you leaning against it as he plays, humming along, sipping a glass of wine.
And that skirt fabric looks great on your table, what an eye you have to have picked it out from those racks of clothes. I’m so happy that you see it when you sit at your laptop.

    • Jean on April 16, 2014 at 6:29 pm

If you go to his website (joeysommerville.com) you can hear some of the finished product. However, just piano is harder to come by. Yeah, I’m lucky. I think of you when I see the fabric!! Makes me happy too.

So much gorgeousness! I love everything and it all looks like a magazine spread. I used to have some napkins and placemats very much like those and wish I had hung onto them though in the end I decided I would never get around to making anything with them so I donated them for someone else who could.

    • Jean on April 16, 2014 at 6:31 pm

Hopefully someone is using them right now! I frequently regret things I’ve given away or donated, but I figure it just makes room for something else. Thank you so much for stopping by!!

Fantastic shoes! You always look great while moving along……

    • Jean on April 17, 2014 at 3:40 pm

Thank you Joni!!! Hope all’s well with you. Is it getting warm yet? :-)

  13. Tiina L on April 18, 2014 at 12:43 pm

It is so interesting to get a peek of your life this way, thanks!

    • Jean on April 18, 2014 at 6:20 pm

Glad you enjoyed it. I know I love seeing the environment that bloggers live in; it completes the picture many times.

  14. Olga on April 21, 2014 at 12:49 am

It was nice to have glimpses of your life during the week, Jean! You looks stylish, as always. Love those shoes and the blooming tree is such a beauty!

    • Jean on April 21, 2014 at 12:53 am

Spring is truly magical here. I look forward to seeing this tree every year.

  15. Jazz on April 23, 2014 at 5:41 am

I’m loving the behind-the-scenes posts from a seasoned blogger. I’m just starting out, and like you, have recalcitrant equipment! But I do love it so! You always look so comfortable and nonchalant in your beautiful creations. I look forward to reading more :-)

Love your daughters room! I know where she gets her artsy side from :) loving your playful spirit and love for the little things. <3 <3

    • Jean on May 1, 2014 at 7:28 pm

Somedays it’s definitely all about the small things. In fact, I’d say the majority of days, for me. I think of it as little pockets of happiness.
